Let there be light!

Blackpool will brighten up autumn this Friday as the world famous Illuminations are switched on.

But, as with all events this year, the usual razzamataz will be replaced by a virtual switch on from the Tower Ballroom.

Covid restrictions mean that instead of thousands flocking to the front, millions will be able to watch the event at home.

And the heroes of the coronavirus pandemic will be the stars which shine as they flick the switch and appear in a special tableaux made for this year’s lights bonanza.

For the first time in its history, Blackpool Illuminations will be extended to January 3 in order to boost the local economy which has had to wait while restrictions were lifted in the summer.

For an extra two months you will be able to see the Lights when you stay in one of our amazing apartments.

We will be having a number of special offers while the Lights shine so you can stay and see one of the best free shows in the world.

Keep an eye out for these offers on all our social media channels.

While the event might be behind closed doors, there will still be a load of celebs performing in the run-up to the switch on, including X-Factor runner-up Fleur East, dance troupe Diversity, former Spice Girl Mel C plus seven “coronavirus heroes” and a dog who all played their part in either raising money for people affected by the pandemic or who were on the front line.

Blackpool Illuminations will shine from September 4 to January 3 (inclusive).
