“St Annes?” is a common answer when people are asked if they’ve ever heard of our little tourism town.
And they probably aren’t alone, it’s a seaside coastal gem which lives in the shadow of its big neighbour, Blackpool.
You WILL have heard of Blackpool!
St Annes doesn’t have the brash-ness of Blackpool but what it lacks in that it more than makes up for in beauty.
Don’t get us wrong, we love Blackpool as it’s a Mecca for tourism in the north west and home to some of the best attractions in the UK.
However, St Annes is where our heart is, a superb town with some of the best mix of independent and high street stores, cafes, restaurants and bars around.
Not to mention the beach, promenade, public spaces and unique places you won’t find anywhere else.
From the tranquillity of Ashton Gardens to the miles of coast stretching from Lytham Green right up to the start of Blackpool’s South Shore.
There’s four (yes, FOUR) world class golf courses within a few miles of each other – one of the only places in the world where these “links” courses can be found.
The Open has been played here many times in the past at Royal Lytham & St Annes, and its qualifying rounds take place at The Old Links, Fairhaven and Green Drive.
If golf isn’t your thing then St Annes has access to miles upon miles of coastal cycling routes, walks, or lazy days on the golden sand of the beach. It’s all just a stone’s-throw from your accommodation with Charles Alexander Short Stay.
St Annes is also home to a number of unique events, including in its Carnival at the start of July, through to a music and arts festival in August and culminating in the International Kite Festival in September – attended by thousands every year.
Sadly, due to the ongoing pandemic, some of these events are on hold until next year but stay tuned for more information on that in an upcoming blog.
Like most towns, St Annes has struggled with lockdown so we have been working with local businesses to help promote them and hopefully bring in some extra trade once restrictions allow.
We want to continue to help them and will be introducing a number of new initiatives over the coming weeks which will benefit both businesses and guests who come to stay with CA.
